Receives new five-year contract to help redesign and continue manufacturing the US government’s next-generation Green Card.
December 14, 2015
By: DAVID SAVASTANO
HID Global, a subsidiary of ASSA ABLOY, has won a new five-year contract to help redesign and continue manufacturing the US government’s next-generation Permanent Resident Card (PRC), commonly known as the Green Card, as well as to supply enhanced Employment Authorization Documents (EADs). The $88 million deal marks the largest government contract to date for the ASSA ABLOY Group company based in Austin, TX, and extends a nearly two-decade relationship for another five years. The agreement expands production to include the manufacture and supply of additional government documents that will be enhanced with RFID technology for improved fraud protection. “We’re proud of our long-standing relationship with the US government and are committed to delivering a new generation of the US Green Card along with new high-security employment documents for them in the years to come,” said Rob Haslam, VP of Government ID Solutions at HID Global, said. “This contract award proves anew that HID Global has been and will continue to be the country’s preeminent supplier of secure government ID document solutions through four successive generations of US Green Cards and beyond. HID Global will be responsible for the secure production, delivery, and storage of up to 34 million identity cards over the next five years. More than 10 million of HID Global’s first-generation multi-technology eID cards have been issued as Green Cards since 2010, with more than 32 million of the company’s first-generation Green Cards issued since 1997. As part of the deal, HID Global will also play a pivotal role in helping to upgrade the current EADs by supplying cards featuring RFID technology and new, fraud-resistant security features. These advanced documents, which serve as evidence of authorization to be employed in the US, will be issued to individuals as they apply for new, renewal or replacement PRCs and EADs.
